Govt extends ESI to educational institutions

Srinagar, Mar 12: Employees State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, a scheme of Ministry of Labour, Government of India, meant for the social security and welfare of the organized working class of private sector, has now been extended to educational institutions including Public, Private (fully or partially aided) run by the individuals, trusts, societies or other organizations wherein twenty or more persons are employed or were employed on any day of the proceeding twelve months, a PIB handout said.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the J&K State Labour & Employment Department, in November 2005. Under the ESI Act 1948 the insured employees will be entitled to all cash and medical benefits being provided under the ESI scheme.
