To review the progress of different initiatives of the horticulture department undertaken in Pulwama and Kupwara, Director Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad has conducted the field visits of the two districts and took stock of various sponsored schemes for the financial year 2018-19.
While visiting base station Chogal on Saturday, Director was appraised about the progress made in land preparation of 4 ha area which is to be brought under high density apple plantation during current season, a statement issued by the department said.
During the visit he was appraised that 30 kanals of land were transferred by district administration to the department and in its first phase within the provisions of approved budget of Rs 50 lakh various developmental activities are in progress so as to ensure that the nursery area is developed for production of high quality walnut plants for further distribution to the farmers in line with feasibility of area.
On Friday, he also visited Zainapora Farm to take stock of the works and other developmental programmes. He was informed that at ACHD Zainapora in 2016-17, out of the imported apple clonal root stocks 50,000 numbers and 10,000 numbers were provided to SKUAST Kashmir and CITH authorities respectively for their evaluation, multiplication and further distribution among growers of J&K.
