Horticulture deptt to develop high density walnut nursery in Kupwara

To review the progress of different initiatives of the horticulture department undertaken in Pulwama and Kupwara, Director Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad has conducted the field visits of the two districts and took stock of various sponsored schemes for the financial year 2018-19.

While visiting base station Chogal on Saturday, Director wasappraised about the progress made in land preparation of 4 ha area which is tobe brought under high density apple plantation during current season, astatement issued by the department said.

   

During the visit he was appraised that 30 kanals of landwere transferred by district administration to the department and in its firstphase within the provisions of approved budget of Rs 50 lakh variousdevelopmental activities are in progress so as to ensure that the nursery areais developed for production of high quality walnut plants for furtherdistribution to the farmers in line with feasibility of area.

On Friday, he also visited Zainapora Farm to take stock ofthe works and other developmental programmes. He was informed that  at ACHD Zainapora in 2016-17, out of theimported apple clonal root stocks 50,000 numbers and 10,000 numbers wereprovided to SKUAST Kashmir and CITH authorities respectively for theirevaluation, multiplication and further distribution among growers of J&K.
