Director Horticulture, Ajaz Ahamd Bhat Monday said that the focus of horticulture department should be on small and marginal farmers for their upliftment.
According to an official spokesperson, Bhat made theseremarks while chairing a review meeting of various departmental activities anddifferent horticulture related schemes.
During the meeting, Director took a comprehensive review ofhorticulture and allied activities being undertaken for increase in qualityproduction of fruit, its distribution and marketing.
Director Horticulture also reviewed the status, productionand distribution of fruit from Harwan, Zawoora and Zakura nurseries under thehorticulture department.
It was given out that 6,068 families in Srinagar aredependent on horticulture and the department plans to develop urban gardenswithin municipal limits of Srinagar city, which intends to cover more than 4000families.
Meeting was informed that the department plans to givesupport in establishment of storage, processing and preservation units besidesproviding assistance in refrigerated transport vehicles.Joint Director Horticulture, Assistant DirectorHorticulture and chief horticulture officers from Srinagar and other districtsof central Kashmir attended the meeting.
