The three-day International Buyer-Seller meet at SKICC has evoked good response from customers across the board.

The three-day meet was inaugurated on Saturday by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and is an annual event hosted by KCCI in Srinagar to promote handicraft sector.

President KCCI Javed Ahmad Tenga said response to the event was overwhelming as both domestic and foreign buyers got an opportunity to interact with the local exporters.

Tenga said 65 foreign buyers attended the event and almost 100 stalls by the local artisans were erected in two halls at SKICC here.

“Many stall owners got on the spot orders confirmed. Carpets, shawls, woolen, chain stich rugs, cushion covers, wood carving, paper machie attracted the buyers,” Tenga said.

A buyer Serjan Unsal from Turkey said the buying house he was representing was one of the largest in his country. Unsal said he was in Kashmir for second time and mostly buying shawls.

“Silk, wool and embrodidery work here is quite unique. Kashmiri products especially shawls are rated quite high in our country. There is a huge potential for Kashmiri handicrafts in global market. Platforms such as this meet is a win-win situation for both buyers and sellera,” Unsal said.
