Irfan Rashid bags INSA Young Scientist medal for 2019

Irfan Rashid, 34, an assistant professor at University of Kashmir’s Earth Sciences Department, has been awarded Young Scientist medial for 2019 by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Irfan has been awarded for his outstanding research onimplications of changing climate and other anthropogenic forcings on glacierdynamics and hazards, snow cover changes, land system-alpine vegetationdynamics, lake and wetland health over Jammu and Kashmir region, said INSAcommuniqué issued recently.

   

INSA has this year awarded 30 young scientists all below 35years of age with medals, citation and cash prize for their outstandingresearch contribution in sciences.

The INSA president in a letter to Irfan has written: “Itgives me great pleasure to inform you that you have been awarded theprestigious INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2019). You have shown greatpotential to be a leader in research. I sincerely hope that you will continueto strive hard to reach your potential and to prove your leadership in comingyears. Please accept my hearty congratulations.”

INSA Young Scientist Medal award carries a bronze medal,certificate and cash prize of Rs 50,000. The award ceremony will be held duringanniversary meeting of the Academy in December.

The young scientist award has been constituted by the INSAin1974 in association with Kothari Scientific Research Institute with the aimof distinguishing young scientists of extraordinary promise and creativity whohave made notable research contributions in Science and Technology. Since 1981,however, this award has been solely managed and funded by INSA. INSA is a bodyof Indian scientists founded in 1935 for promotion of scientific knowledge inthe country. One of their activities is to encourage and motivate young talentin Indian science. The INSA Young Scientists Award, is considered to be thehighest recognition of promise, creativity and excellence in a young scientist.It is made annually to the distinguished young scientists for their excellentresearch work carried out in India.
