JKPCC sub-contractors demand clearance of Rs 20 cr pending bills

Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Piece Workers’ (sub-contractors) Union has demanded release of pending dues worth over Rs 20 crore.

A delegation of the contractors who visited Greater Kashmiroffice here said that more than 2,000 sub-contractors are waiting for thepayments against the works executed by them.

   

They said the work on several projects including themulti-level car parking at Hazratbal, Haj House Bemina, etc., has been badlyhit due to non-payment of dues by the corporation to the contractors.

The contractors said they have even apprised Governor SatyaPal Malik of their problems yet “our grievance has not been addressed.”

They said that for the last 5 months only the aggregatesalary of the employees of the corporation amounting to about Rs 35 crore wasdisbursed, “while the works payments remain unpaid.”

The aggrieved contractors also alleged poor state of affairsin the corporation.  “There is everyapprehension that the position of JKPCC may go just like any other sick publicsector undertaking in the state, if immediate corrective measures are nottaken,” said Manzoor Ahmad Mir, secretary of the union.
