J&K’s Adeeb Butt wins beauty therapy skill competition in Bangalore

One more candidate from Jammu and Kashmir has qualified for the National Skill Competition taking the total number of the all-India contest entrants from the state to six. Mohammad Adeeb Butt (19), a resident of Jammu got first position in the skill category beauty therapy at the India-Skills South Regional Competition held in Bangalore on Saturday.

 Mohammad Adeeb is pursuing bachelor’s degree in humanities at Degree College, Mishriwala, Jammu and was encouraged by his mother Salma to take up beauty therapy as a hobby.

   

“I am thankful to my parents who have encouraged me at every step and I am happy that I have lived up to their expectations,” said Adeeb. “I am also thankful to JKSDM, which provided the much needed support to prepare for this competition and without that it would not have been possible for me to appear for this competition.”

More than 300 candidates from 14 states participated in the35 skills Regional Level Competition at Bangalore. Anant Kumar Hegde, Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, GoI, Rajesh Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, GoI, Jayant Krishna, Executive Director, National Skill Development Corporation and other senior officials attended the valedictory ceremony and felicitated the winners of the regional competition.

Earlier at the India Skills North Competition which was held in May 2018 at Lucknow, five candidates from J&K qualified in mobile robotics, mechanical CAD, graphic designing, patisserie & confectionary trades.

The winners of the regional level skill competition will further participate in the World Skills India national level competitions leading to the World Skills Competition to be held at Kazan, Russia in 2019. The national skill competition will be held in July-August, 2018.

It is the first time that J&K has send a team of skilled candidates to participate in the regional level skill competitions which are being held in different phases across the country.

J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) in collaboration with its partnering institutions NIT- Srinagar, IHM -Srinagar, Central University, Jammu, NIELIT, SSMD-Baramulla and Arena Animation have been providing training and guidance to the candidates for the said skill competition.

JKSDM had received 700 registrations for the India Skill J&K Competition-2018, out of which 20 candidates emerged as state level winners and in regional level skill competition, 6 candidates have made it to the next level (National level) of the competition.
