JKSDM concludes state contest for world skills competition

J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM), under India Skills Competition- J&K, 2018 conducted the State Level Skill Competitions at Srinagar for selection of the candidates for participation in regional and national competitions leading to the World Skills Competition-Russia, 2019.

JKSDM received more than 700 applications in different 12 skill categories for the State Level Skill Competitions which were held in Srinagar and Jammu between May 6 to May 8. 

   

Technical Education Minister Molvi Imran Raza Ansari said, “Our endeavour is to provide the youth of J&K with opportunities to grow and excel. We have started many programs to promote the talent of the youth in J&K and organizing such competitions, will provide our youth much needed exposure to exhibit their skill”.

Mission Director, JKSDM Peer GN Suhail told, “It is the first time our state has actively participated in the India Skills Competition and we are hopeful that the selected candidates will put up a good performance in the next levels of the competition”. 

Professor Saad Parvez, Head( IIED Centre)-NIT-Srinagar and Technical Coordinator, India Skills Competition- J&K-2018, “We had kept a two-tier competitive process(base /cluster and state level competitions) along with an intermediate training process for the selection of the candidates. The candidates were also  trained and motivated to take their respective skills as career options”. 

The result of the state level competitions will be declared during the TALAASH-Skill & Entrepreneurship Conclave, which is going to be held on May 12 and 13 in Srinagar. Apart from the cash prizes, the winner and the runner-up candidates will proceed for the regional level skill competitions to be held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

J&K Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) organized the State level Skill Competitions in collaboration with NIT- Srinagar, IHM -Srinagar, Central University, Jammu, NIELIT-Jammu, SSMD-Baramulla and Arena Animation.

Considered as the Skills Olympics, World Skills Competition is held every alternate year in different countries. At the most recent event, World Skills Competition, 2017 held at Abu Dhabi, there were competitions in 51 skills areas with close to 1,300 young people taking part and India bagged one silver and bronze medal along with 11 medallions of excellence. The next competition is scheduled to be held at Kazan, Russia in 2019.
