Kashmir Inc contemplates legal action against media channel for 'wrong reportage' on NIA raids

President, KCCI, Mushtaq Wani urged the state government and Press Council of India to take note of the issue and “initiate strong and punitive action against the channel.”

Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Monday threatened legal action against a Mumbai-based news channel in case it did not tender an apology for “telecasting baseless reports regarding NIA raids on some businessmen and a hotelier in Kashmir.”

President, KCCI, Mushtaq Wani urged the state government and Press Council of India to take note of the issue and “initiate strong and punitive action against the channel.”

“It is known to everybody that Kashmir economy is passing through crisis for quite some time especially post 2014 floods. Such false and malicious and defamatory reporting by a section of electronic media is adding fuel to fire thereby subjugating the economy of Kashmir and complicating the already volatile situation,” Wani in a statement said.

The statement said the KCCI held a meeting on Sunday to discuss possibilities of taking legal action against the said channel. “The Chamber is seriously considering the option of taking legal action against the channel.”
