Kashmir Inc demands national highway status for Mughal Road

Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has sought national highway status for 84-km Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir division with Jammu via Poonch-Rajouri districts.

According to an official spokesperson, a delegation of KCCIon Saturday called on Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here anddemanded declaration of Mughal Road as a national highway.

   

The delegation apprised the Governor about economic lossessuffered due to frequent closure of Jammu-Srinagar road link and requested forurgent repair of the road link, the spokesperson said.

The  KCCI alsodemanded introduction of air connectivity between Srinagar and Jammu on thepattern of  the ‘UDAN’ scheme of theMinistry of Civil Aviation; conversion of foot bridges on river Jhelum intomotorable bridges; crop insurance scheme for Agriculture and Horticulturesectors; restoration of cross-LoC trade; introduction of effective measures toprevent and manage floods; making available land for industrial use; makingcommon STPs functional to protect water bodies; and revival of carpetmanufacturing industry in state.

The delegation also extended invitation to Governor aboutthe upcoming Ambassadors Meet in New Delhi on May 25.
