KVK Srinagar holds awareness camp on FMD

Due to flare-up of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Zainakote, HMT areas, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Srinagar in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry Kashmir organised  an awareness-cum-clinical camp in the area for early intervention to halt the spread of the disease.

According to the statement, the team was led by the seniorscientist and head , KVK, Srinagar, Dr Rekhi Singh along with Subject MatterSpecialist from KVK Ganderbal Dr Pervaiz Dar, KVK Srinagar Dr Aijaz Ganie,Department of Veterinary Medicine Dr Shahnaz Bashir and Veterinarian from AHDDr Qazi Nyrah.

   

During the program, a scientist-dairy farmers’ interactionwas held to make farmers aware about the management, prevention and control ofthe FMD. About 50 farmers participated in the event The farmers were advised torestrict the movement of diseased animals so that the disease may not spread tothe adjoining areas.

Also, a door to door examination of animals in the area wasconducted by the experts from KVK and the ailing animals were treated on thespot. The essential medicines to treat the FMD were distributed among thefarmers. The inhabitants appreciated the efforts of KVK Srinagar for timelyintervention and necessary steps in preventing further outbreak to the adjoiningareas.
