LMD books 5 petrol pump owners

Deputy Controller LMD issued notices to four petrol pumps and Assistant Controller Budgam Altaf Hussian to one petrol pump while the Joint Controller slapped a fine of Rs 13500 on the defaulters.

Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of various petrol pumps  in Kashmir Valley and found 5 petrol pumps violating provisions of  Legal Metrology Laws.

The officials said: “The Field Executives of Legal Metrology department conducted surprise inspection of petrol pumps of districts Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam and booked 5 petrol pump owners for violating various provisions of  Legal Metrology  Laws”.

“Under Legal   Metrology Laws every petrol pump has to check the delivery of the pump before putting it to use. In case the pump issues short or excess delivery, the function of the dispensing pump is to be stopped and the department may be informed to rectify the errors,” the department in a statement said.

Moreover, the petrol pump has to keep an approved 5 litre brass conical measure available at the premises with which a customer  can check the delivery himself in case  he doubts the accuracy of the dispensing pump, it added.
