LMD penalises bakers for overcharging

The field executives of the Legal Metrology Department Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of Dalagate, Gagribal, Buchwara, Ishber Braien markets of Srinagar and booked nine erring bakers for violating Legal Metrology Laws.

A statement said, the department has received the complaintsfrom the residents of Ishber that the bakers of the area are coercing them tobuy Rs 10 Kashmiri Tchut and Lawasa in place of Rs 5 denominations. TheDirector Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Kashmir has recently issueda rate-list of Kashmiri Tchut, Tchawroo and Lawasa in consultation with theallied departments and other stakeholders. The rate of Rs 5 has been fixed for55 gram of Kashmiri Tchut, Tchawroo and Lawasa. A fee of Rs 6600 was collectedfrom the erring traders.
