LMD penalises diagnostic lab for issuing wrong report

Legal Metrology Department has penalised a medical diagnostic lab for issuing an inaccurate test report.

According to a statement, LMD received a complaint from aconsumer against a diagnostic medical laboratory for issuing a misleadingmedical report of blood sample showing high TSH level.

   

The complainant, who repeated the same test form other labsand was received the report in contrary, rushed to the medical lab whose reportshowed the high levels of TSH in order to make them aware of their negligence,but the management of the Blood Collection Centre instead of confessing theirmistake, mis-behaved with the consumer which prompted her to lodge a writtencomplaint in the Legal Metrology Department for deficiency of service.

“The department issued a show cause notice to the managementof the lab and the management in turn confessed that the sampling error mayhave crept in while collecting the blood sample,” read the statement.

Both the parties were heard in-person and they mutuallyagreed to settle the complaint amicably outside the purview of Consumer Court,it said. The management of the lab apologized to the complainant and paid herRs 5,000 as compensation for her deep mental agony. The department also slappeda fine of Rs 2,000 on the medical lab for using un-reverified precision digitalscale in their premises,” read the statement.
