‘Mughal Road to remain available for ferrying fruit 4 days a week’

The Inspector General of Police Traffic J&K Alok Kumar held a meeting with the presidents and other representatives of various fruit growers and transport union associations, cold store association of north Kashmir.

The meeting was also attended by SP Traffic Rural KashmirMuzaffar Ahmad Shah.

   

The participant representatives of fruitgrowers/transporters put forth the difficulties faced by them duringtransportation of the fruit to other parts of the country in view of the roadblockades caused due to landslides, shooting stones, etc. as also due to roadwidening process on NHW-44.

The IGP Traffic J&K assured the representatives thattheir genuine grievances shall be redressed on priority and in order to ensurehassle-free movement of fruit laden trucks from Kashmir towards Jammu, MughalRoad would be kept available for them for four days a week.

The representatives were also assured that priority would begiven to transportation of apple fruit, presently in cold storage as well asthe fresh fruit, a statement here said.

It may be in place to mention that the Mughal Road hasrecently been thrown open for one-way traffic and efforts are being made tomake possible the two-way traffic. In this regard, IGP Traffic J&K also calleda meeting with the Chief Engineer Mughal Road Project who was asked to ensureclearance of debris and accumulated snow from the road. He was also asked toensure black topping of road surface.  Heassured to take requisite action in the matter on priority.
