Employees of Power Development department today decided to defer their two-day strike against the unbundling of the department scheduled from January 30.
The decision was taken by J&K Electrical Employees Union after their meeting with Principal Secretary PDD, Sandeep Kumar Nayak and his outgoing counterpart Arun Kumar Mehta.
The meeting discussed the issue of proposed unbundling of the department. The employees expressed concern over the proposed unbundling of the department. They said the government had initiated the process of unbundling without taking the Electrical Employees Union into confidence. The employees said they would appreciate unbundling if it was for the betterment of department.
They said the “privatization” of the department will in no case benefit the state much less the department. “The annual revenue realization by the department has reached to Rs 2,200 crore, which is worth appreciating,” they said.
Union President, Abdul Salam Rajpuri and its General Secretary-Manzoor Ahmad Bhat said the information provided to the Union regarding the role of the non-Gazetted executive/ministerial staff post-unbundling was insufficient.
“Unless the complete blueprint of the scheme is provided to the Union and their consent taken, the unbundling should be kept in abeyance,” the president said in a statement.
