The employees of Power Development department shall strike work on January 30 and 31 against government proposal to unbundle the department.
The call for the strike has been issued by Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Employees Union. President, JKEEU, Abdul Salam Rajpoori said the call has been necessitated by government’s “unwise” proposal to incorporate the department into a group of companies.
"Some officials in PDD for their petty gains are misleading the government and hastening unbundling process without any proper groundwork and without taking the stakeholders into confidence," Rajpoori said.
He said the employees were apprehensive about their future and the decision of management to impose corporatization would have catastrophic effects for the consumers in the state.
“The employees of the PDD are uncertain about their future as they are not aware what will be their role after privatization or what they term as unbundling of the department. Other than some little information about the plan revealed to us in bits and pieces, nothing has been discussed with us which is highly deplorable,” he said.
To mention, the government has planned to break the department into four power companies which have already been registered. The companies shall deal separately with transmission, distribution and trading of power in the state.
