Police on Monday foiled the Raj Bhawan Chalo call of Joint Coordination Committee of Contractors, who are protesting government’s failure to release their unpaid bills amounting over Rs 1000 crore.
As soon as the protesting contractors, started movingtowards Governor’s residence from Engineering Complex, Rajbagh, policepersonnel stationed there swung into action and foiled their bid to carry outprotest rally.
Several contractors were detained at Raj Bagh policestation, however they were later released.
Co-chairman, JCCC, Ghulam Jeelani Purza said, “Neithergovernment is releasing our payment nor they are allowing us to carry peacefulprotests.”
“We have been pushed towards bankruptcy, it is hightime that Governor SP Malik must personally intervene to redress issue of thecontractors,” he added.
JCCC for past over one month has boycotted all developmentalworks in the state.
