SKUAST-K holds 2-day training for vermicompost farmers

A two days training programme cum exposure visit of vermicompost producers organised by Mountain Livestock Research Institute (MLRI), Manasbal, SKUAST-K in collaboration with Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) concluded here on Wednesday.

About 23 farm women from Barammula and Bandipore districtsparticipated in the programme, according to a statement issued by theinstitute.

   

The participants were given hands on training of scientificvermicompost production and were exposed to various operations of thevermicompost production process, it said.

Scientists of MLRI, Manasbal delivered lectures onprofitable vermicompost production, utilising cattle dung, effect of feeding onquality vermicompost production, farm yard management, waste to wealthproduction, hands on training on vermicompost, integrated dairy withvermicomposting and use of vermicompost in organic farming.

Earlier Chief Scientist and Head, MLRI JD Parrah outlinedthe importance of the dairy farming and vermicomposting.

Programme officer Livelihood, IGSSS, ShowkatHussain on theoccasion thanked the experts of MLRI Manasbal, SKUAST-K for educating thefarmers about profitable and scientific vermicompost production process.
