SMC clarifies on Master Plan violations along highway

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday clarified that no fresh illegal construction is coming up in its jurisdiction along the highway between Parimpora and Athwajan.

Responding to a news story ‘Master Plan violations assume new heights” published on City page on Tuesday, the PRO SMC in a statement clarified “our inspecting team did not find any fresh illegal construction, apart from the constructions against which action stands already taken, months and years back.”  “Besides no illegal multi-storey constructions are coming up in SMC jurisdiction which was otherwise reported in news item,” it said. 

The statement said on the directions of the Commissioner, SMC,  a team of officers consisting of Secretary, SMC, Chief Enforcement Officer, Enforcement Officers and Ward Officers concerned visited the Srinagar-Jammu Highway Bye-pass from Panthachowk  to Parimpora. 

“Subsequently Commissioner, SMC also joined the inspection team. The area on the either side of the highway mostly falls within the jurisdiction of Srinagar Development Authority. It is worthwhile to mention here that the jurisdiction of Srinagar Municipal Corporation so far as control of building activities is  concerned, it is confined to the area of PanthaChowk and Pandrathan except towards Bus Stand  and from Ahmad Hospital Masjid on the right side of Highway upto the BeminaChowk,” it said. 

“The jurisdiction of Srinagar Development Authority covers the entire Highway Bye pass Road including Bagh-i-Mahtab except right side from Ahmad Hospital Masjid uptoChanapora Bridge.

With regard to conversion of residential building permission into commercial, SMC is keeping close watch over such constructions including flood affected structures. The Chief Enforcement Officer SMC has reported that 342 numbers of demolitions of illegal structures have been carried out, after the September 2014 till date,” the statement added.
