Srinagar Airport upgradation must for Kashmir tourism: JKHC

Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club highlighted the issue of frequent flight cancellation at Srinagar Airport due to low visibility and bad weather with the delegation of Parliamentary Standing Committee which is on a four-day tour to Kashmir.

Interacting with the committee, J&K Hoteliers Club informed the delegation that Kashmir tourism receives major jolt due to flight cancellation and frequent Srinagar – Jammu road closures on account of bad weather and snowfall.

The JKHC urged the Parliamentary Committee that the Government of India may be impressed upon improving landing facilities at Srinagar Airport so that planes can land and take off at minimum visibility.

The JKHC interacted with the Parliamentary delegation in Srinagar and also at Gulmarg and put forth their issues confronting the hospitality sector.

Secretary General Tariq Rashid Ghani represented the JKHC during the meetings at both the places. The Hoteliers Club also invited the attention of the delegation to the unusual hike in the airfare during peak season and during Srinagar – Jammu road closure. It sought regulation of the airfare on Srinagar route.

“In view of the August 2019 and subsequent Covid Lockdown, Hoteliers Club said that the hospitality sector suffered colossal losses for over a year which needs to be compensated.

The Club sought immediate interest free cash assistance to the hospitality sector for its survival and also revival plans,” JKHC said in a statement.

“The Hoteliers Club also raised concern over the ban on repairs and upgradation of the hotels at Boulevard in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg which it said has damaged these properties,” it said.
