Tata Sons likely to setup online examination centre in Kashmir

Tata Sons, one of the largest business conglomerates of the country, may setup an online assessment centre in Kashmir for conducting various computer-based competitive exams.

The proposal about the assessment centre has came to foreduring recent Kashmir visit of a team of top executives of Tata Sons, a seniorofficial, who was the part of a meeting with the group said.

   

The official said the conglomerate has in-principal agreedto setup the centre. However, he said, the Tata Group has asked the state toprovide the required space for the centre. If established, more than 3000students can appear in any competitive exam at the centre.

“The company executives have asked the state government fora ready-to-move in space where they will establish the facility. It will be anonline assessment centre where students can appear in exams such as GATE, NEET,JEE and other competitive exams,” the official said.

One of the companies of the group, Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) is now the agency for conducting a number of competitive exams. CBSE hasalso tied-up with TCS for conducting various exams.

The visiting Tata executives have asked the state governmentto provide 9,000 square feet space in the initial phase, which can be laterexpanded to 15,000 square feet later to accommodate 2,000 more students.

“The centre will most likely come up at IT Tower in Rangrethas it is already a hub of Information Technology. Not just exams forprofessional courses but even assessment tests for jobs in railways, banks,etc,,” the official said.   He said theTata Group is looking at undertaking online courses at the centre when it isnot in use for exams.

Addressing students at the Kashmir University in an eventrecently, Venguswamy Ramaswamy,Senior vice-president and global head, TataConsultancy Services (iON) had said the visiting team has taken a jointdecision to look at Jammu and Kashmir in a “holistic 360 degree view for growthand development of students”.

TCS ioN, which is the strategic unit of TCS focused oneducational institutions and examination boards has conducted examinations forinstitutions like All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS), Central Boardof Secondary Education (CBSE), etc.
