Scores of shopping complexes in north Kashmir with inadequate or no parking facilities have become a source for traffic mismanagement on the roads.
In north Kashmir comprising three districts of Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara, scores of big and small shopping complexes have come up over past some years. Most of these complexes are lacking parking lots.
"As per standard norms, every shopping complex should have parking space so that the visitors don’t face hardship. In absence of proper monitoring system, these complexes have been constructed without any parking space," a retired official of Municipal Council Baramulla said.
Sources said that even as the space in these complexes is leased out at excessive prices, the owners pay little attention towards providing inside parking slots.
Sources said at many places these complexes have come in total disregard to the building permissions.
Executive Officer, Municipal Council Baramulla, Imtiyaz-ui-Haque Rather said: "We don’t issue permissions to shopping complexes which don’t have the facilities like parking space. However, I believe some owners defy the norms. We will take action against such owners."
