Upgraded pesticide quality control lab inaugurated at Lal Mandi

Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Syed AltafAijazAndrabi Thursday inaugurated upgraded pesticide quality lab here at LalMandi.

The laboratory has been equipped with high quality GLC andUV vis Spectrophotometer which is capable of analysingHexaconozole 5% EC andMelathion.

   

With the augmentation of these high-tech equipments, thepesticide analysing capacity of the laboratory has reached to 23 molecules from18 molecules, according to an official spokesperson.

Director said that in the quality control lab, qualityparameters of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides will be tested withgreat precision and accuracy. The products which are found of low grade,misbranded are ordered for stopping the sale through Law Enforcement Agency andalso given wide publicity in print and electronic media through Information andPublications Wing Directorate of Agriculture.

Andrabi said that the department is utilising all itsefforts to increase the efficiency and capacity of the quality control lab atLalMandi, so that more number of samples and more number of molecules ofpesticide formulation can be analysed on various quality parameters and the useof spurious pesticides by various dealers can be stopped.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Chemist informed at the occasion thatthey are having a trained staff for quality analysis, among them two arespecially trained from PFA, National Institute of Plant Health Management(NIPHM) Hyderabad for testing quality parameters of Insecticides/Pesticides andnow our strength of testing has reached upto 23 molecules  and we have set to achieve the goal oftesting upto 32 molecules for which the purchase of more number of high techequipment is under way.
