Upper House refers Saffron Bill to select committee

Jammu: A Bill to provide for regulating the quality of saffron and to ensure its genuineness for sale and export and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto, LA Bill No. 2 of 2006 already passed by Legislative Assembly, was today referred to Select Committee by Legislative Council.
The Bill was moved by Minister for Agriculture, Abdul Aziz Zargar in Legislative Council today.
While expressing views on the Bill, Sofi Ghulam Mohammad pointed out various aspects of improving the quality of saffron and checking encroachment on saffron land in Pampore and other saffron growing areas. He alongwith Prof. Bhim Singh and other members demanded sending of the bill to Select Committee to make it more effective.
The Agriculture Minister agreed with the suggestions and the Bill was sent to Select Committee by the Chairman Abdul Rashid Dar. Those who also spoke on the bill included Ashok Sharma and Farida Mir. (INF)
