2 arrested, 20 bovines rescued: Police

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested two men and rescued twenty bovine animals from their possession near Chenani-Nashri tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

A police officer said, “Two trucks, JK02AC 8717 and JK02CA 5032, were signaled to stop at a checkpoint laid by a team from Batote police station, led by station house officer, Nazir Ahmed, near the Chenani-Nashri tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. During checking, twenty bovine animals were found loaded in the trucks.”

   

The animals were being transported “illegally” to Kashmir Valley, the officer said, adding that both the trucks were seized and their drivers were arrested.

The police identified the arrested men as Jagdish Raj, a resident of Dinanagar, Gurdaspur in Punjab, and Ravi Kumar, a resident of Udhampur.

The police have taken cognizance of both the incidents, the officer said, adding that further investigations are going on.
