2 killed, 8 injured in road accidents

Two persons were killed while six others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in Rajouri and Ramban districts on Tuesday.

In Rajouri, a woman was killed while three men sustained injuries after a car skidded off the road and plunged into a roadside gorge at Tarpai Bridge area on Rajouri-Thannamandi road.

   

A police officer said, “On Tuesday evening, a Safari car, HR01AG 2893, en route Rajouri from Thannamandi, skidded off the road and plunged into a roadside gorge at Tarpai bridge. As a result, four persons sustained injuries.”

He added that the injured were evacuated from the car by the locals and shifted to district hospital, Rajouri. Later, one of the injured, identified as Asia Akhter, wife of MukhtairHussain, succumbed during treatment in the hospital.

The other three injured have been identified as AzharMehmood, son of Mohammad Shabir, MukhtarHussain, son of AjwarHussain, and AmjadHussain, son of Bashir Hussain, all resident of Kothra village, in Darhal tehsil. They were undergoing treatment at the hospital, till last reports poured in.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident.

Meanwhile, a man was killed while three others sustained critical injuries after an ambulance they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Kanga on Ramban-Gool road Tuesday afternoon.

The police said, “An ambulance, JK19 5348, while returning to primary health centre, Bhatni, after ferrying a patient to district hospital, Ramban, skidded off the road near Kanga on Ramban-Gool road. As a result, four men sustained grievous injuries.”

The injured were shifted to district hospital, Ramban, where one of the doctors pronounced him as brought dead, they said, adding that the deceased has been identified as Ali Mohammad, son of Mohammad Israil and a resident of village Kabi, Ramban.

Reports said that the deceased was working in the public health engineering department as a need-base worker.

The injured have been identified as Wazir Mohammad, son of Saifudin, Kutab Din, son of TalibHussain, both residents of Kabi, and Fareed Ahmed, son of Abdul Rasheed and a resident of Batli. All of them were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, for specialized treatment after being administered first-aid at the district hospital.

Station house officer, Dhramkund police station, Ajeet Singh told Greater Kashmir that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered.

Furthermore, two motorcycle-borne youth sustained injuries after their motorcycle collided with a car coming from the opposite direction at Chanderkote on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

Police had not ascertained the identity of the injured, till last reports poured in.
