3 held with narcotics: Police

The Jammu and Kashmir police Saturday claimed to have arrested three men and recovered narcotics from their possession, here in Ramban district.

A police officer said, “On a specific information, station house officer, Ramban, Vijay Kotwal, laid a checkpoint on the Jammu-Srinagar highway at Mehar outskirts of Ramban town. During checking, a man, on seeing the police, tried to flee. He was, however, chased down.”

The officer added, “Upon his search, 50 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the accused. He was arrested on the spot and the narcotics were seized.”

The officer identified the accused as Azad Ahmed and said that an FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further.

“Upon questioning, the accused revealed that he used to often sell intoxicants among the youth on exorbitant rates,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police arrested two men in Banihal and allegedly recovered cannabis from their possession.

“On a tip-off, a team led by station house officer, Banihal, Aijaz Wani, laid checkpoint at T-Chowk Banihal and intercepted two pedestrians, who were heading towards Bus Stand. Upon frisking, 2 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from a bag the men were carrying,” a police officer said.

He identified the accused as Shahnawaz Ahned Dar and Ishfaq Majeed Lohar.

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further.
