3 held with narcotics: Police

The Jammu and Kashmir police Saturday claimed to have arrested three men and recovered narcotics from their possession, here in Ramban district.

A police officer said, “On a specific information, stationhouse officer, Ramban, Vijay Kotwal, laid a checkpoint on the Jammu-Srinagarhighway at Mehar outskirts of Ramban town. During checking, a man, on seeingthe police, tried to flee. He was, however, chased down.”

   

The officer added, “Upon his search, 50 grams of brown sugarwas recovered from the accused. He was arrested on the spot and the narcoticswere seized.”

The officer identified the accused as Azad Ahmed and saidthat an FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further.

“Upon questioning, the accused revealed that he used tooften sell intoxicants among the youth on exorbitant rates,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police arrested two men in Banihal andallegedly recovered cannabis from their possession.

“On a tip-off, a team led by station house officer, Banihal,Aijaz Wani, laid checkpoint at T-Chowk Banihal and intercepted two pedestrians,who were heading towards Bus Stand. Upon frisking, 2 kilograms of cannabis wasrecovered from a bag the men were carrying,” a police officer said.

He identified the accused as Shahnawaz Ahned Dar and IshfaqMajeed Lohar.

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating thecase further.
