3 interstate drug peddlers arrested: Police

Jammu and Kashmir police Sunday claimed to have arrested three “interstate drug peddlers” and recovered cannabis and poppy straw from their possession, here in Ramban.

Police said, “During surprise checking of vehicles nearKhowbagh crossing on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the cops interceptedtwo interstate narcotic smugglers, who were found to be in possession ofcannabis. They were transporting the narcotics in two cars, DL4CAP 7336 andDL4CND 2099.”

   

The police claimed to have recovered 18 kilogram of cannabisfrom the two cars. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Qasim andMohammad Karim Sheikh, both residents of Mumbai, police said, adding that an FIRhas been registered and they are investigating the case further.

Meanwhile, the police said, during checking near Nashirtunnel, the stationed cops intercepted a Jammu-bound truck, HR37D 5567, andrecovered three quintals of poppy straw from it.

“The poppy straw had been kept hidden in 12 gunny bags,placed at the back of the truck,” police said, adding that the accused driver,identified as Nazir Ahmed of Himachal Pardesh has been arrested.

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating thecase further.
