4 arrested, 85 bovines rescued: Police

The Jammu and Kashmir police Thursday claimed to have arrested four men while rescuing 85 bovines from their possession, here in Batote.

A police officer said, “A checkpoint was laid on the Jammu-Srinagar highway at Nashri. During routine checking, four trucks were stopped. During search of the vehicles, 85 bovines were found loaded in them.”

   

He said that 16 bovines were recovered from a truck, bearing registration number JK21C 3848, twenty six from JK02AQ 7781, twenty eight bovines from JK02AP 1875 and 15 from UP11AT 0997.

The drivers, the officer said, were trying to transport the animals to Kashmir Valley, without seeking the permission of the competent authority.

He identified the arrested men as YaqoobHussain, Mohammad Sadeeq, Mureed Ali and Ashiq Ali. The trucks were also seized on the spot, he added.

Four separate FIRs have been registered at Batote police station and police are investigating the cases further.
