8 injured in road accidents

Ramban/Rajouri, Jan 6: Eight people were injured, four of them critically, in separate road accidents in Ramban and Rajouri districts on Sunday.

In Ramban, four people were injured when a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Magarkote, Ramsu on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

   

A police officer said, “A Xylo taxi, JK01T 0470, en route Srinagar from Jammu, was being driven negligently. The driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve and the cab skidded off the road into a gorge, where it got entangled with the trees.”

The injured were shifted to primary health center, Ramsu, from where some of them were referred to SMHS, Srinagar for specialized treatment, the officer said.

The injured have been identified as Nazir Ahmed (42), son of Mohammad Ismail, Shabir Ahmed (23), son of Abdul Qayoom, Obaid Ahmed (18), son of Ghulam Mohiudin, and Mir Abrar (18), son of Mohammad Abdul, all residents of Kokernag, Anantnag.

An FIR has been registered, station house officer, Ramsu police station, Naveen Angral said, adding that further investigations are going on.

Meanwhile, in Rajouri, four people sustained injuries after a tractor they were onboard plunged into a gorge at Gurdan Chawa village, near Rajouri town.

The police said, “A tractor, JK11C 3990, plunged into a roadside gorge at Gurdan Chawa village, about four kilometres from Rajouri town. As a result, four people sustained injuries, among whom some were shifted to a nearby hospital by army personnel, while the others were taken in an ambulance to district hospital, Rajouri.”

A police officer said, “All the injured have been shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for advanced treatment, as they were critically injured.”

Three among the injured have been identified as Bilal Ahmed, son of Mohammad Sadiq, Pritam Kumar, both residents of Reasi district, and Anwar Ahmed, son of Haji Mohammad Razaq and a resident of Chawa. The identity of the fourth man had not been ascertained when last reports poured in.
