Advisors review development, security in Doda, Kishtwar

Governor’s advisors K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmed Ganai on Friday visited Kishtwar and Doda districts to take stock of developmental activities in these districts besides reviewing preparedness for upcoming panchayat elections.

At Kishtwar, the advisors convened a meeting with security agencies including police and army officials to discuss the overall law and order scenario in the district.

   

The senior superintendent of police, Kishtwar, briefed the advisors about the prevailing security situation and steps being taken to ensure better police-public relations. He also informed the duo about security arrangements for panchayat elections.

The advisors later reviewed developmental scenario of the district. Deputy commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana briefed the meeting about the physical and financial achievements of the current and expenditure under CAPEX Budget including blacktopping of 75-km road length, position of GDC Chatroo building, 100-bedded IPD building at District Hospital, Kishtwar, Polytechnic College building, SC Hostel, establishment of JNV in Kishtwar, latest status of Naigad Water Supply Scheme where pipe lines were laid down upto 21.5 km out of 32 km. They were told that 12 of 44 far-flung villages have been electrified, including Machail, and left out villages have been provided solar panels and generators with the assurance that all villages will be electrified by the end of this financial year.

The DC highlighted the issues that need government intervention, including release of funding in key areas and for languishing projects. The advisors were also asked to look into issues regarding repairs of dilapidated bridges constructed by the forest department, as since 2015 an order has been issued asking forest department not to undertake any bridge construction work. 

At Doda, the advisors held a meeting with top brass of the police, army, BSF and CRPF to discuss the overall law and order in the district. SSP Doda briefed about the overall security scenario in the area and the development in place for counting scheduled tomorrow.

Deputy commissioner Anshul Garg briefed the advisors about the status of various developmental activities being undertaken in PDD, Health, PHE, Education, Sports, Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture and sectors. He also briefed the meeting about the physical and financial achievements registered in the current fiscal till date. The DC put forth various issues which need intervention of the government including release of additional funding in key areas.

Advisor Khurshid Ahmed Ganai while addressing the officials in both districts said that in construction and blacktopping of various roads under R&B, JKPCC, PMGSY and other schemes all the concerned agencies have to work with added zeal. He directed to achieve the desired target within the set timeframe.

He further directed to ensure sufficient and accurate dumping of ration/food grains during winter season in all far-flung areas of the district and any kind of slackness if reported shall be taken strongly.

Speaking to the officers, advisor Kumar said that although districts are leading in few sectors but still a lot needs to be done.

He said that focused attention should be accorded to complete the ongoing works in a time bound manner. 

Later, scores of deputations and delegations from both the districts met the advisors and put forth their demands. They were assured of speedy redressal.

With regard to panchayat election, DCs briefed the chair in details about the number of panch constituencies and polling station and the arrangements undertaken for successful completion of election.
