Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Bhaderwah, in collaboration with the staff of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bhaderwah, organized an awareness programme on drug abuse and its remedies, here on Saturday.
The awareness programme, in which about 250 students participated, was organised in the premises of GBHSS Bhaderwah.
During the programme, the SDPO, Ifthkar Ahmed, Principal GBHSS and Counselor Baljeet Singh delivered lectures regarding drug abuse, its effects and remedies.
During his address, the SDPO said that drug menace is a major threat to the society, particularly for the young generation, and the police have taken various steps to curb the menace.
He urged on the participants that drug addiction is a disease and must be treated. “We are playing our role, but we need collective efforts from parents, teachers, social organizations, NGOs, religious organizations and society at large,” he said.
During the programme, pamphlets, designed by the police and containing information about drug abuse, were distributed among the participants.
The participants thanked the police for organizing such a programme.
