Banihal residents take out rally in support of Art 35-A

The members of civil society, senior citizens and religious organizations of Banihal town and adjoining villages today took out a protest rally against any attempts to tinker with Article 35-A.

Before the rally, a protest demonstration was held during which the speakers alleged that some political organizations are trying to revoke Article 35-A of the constitution which gives special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

   

Later, a rally was taken out in which hundreds of people of Banihal tehsil and its adjoining areas participated.

The rally started from municipal public park and after passing through Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Nagbal, tehsil office and markets of the town, culminated peacefully at bus stand Banihal.

The protesters were carrying banners placards reading “fiddling with Article 35-A is unacceptable”.

The speakers warned that any move to fiddle with the Article 35-A will be disastrous for the state.

The speakers advised state administration to use all the resources at its disposal for defending Article 35-A.

National Conference (NC), district president, Haji Sajad Shaheen, while speaking on the occasion said that any tinkering with this special provision will be fought tooth and nail by the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, as such a move can jeopardize their economic interests, deprive youth of their share in jobs among other things.

He said that Article 35-A is a formidable bridge between the state and the country, which was incorporated in the Constitution after due thought.
