A middle-aged couple was killed and three members of their family wounded Sunday morning when the car they were traveling in skidded off the road on Chilli Bala-Malik Pura stretch near Mukhyas in Bhalessa area of District Doda.
The family was on its way to Doda from Chilly-Bala when they met the accident and their car slipped off downhill into a deep gorge.
Police said the accident happened at 6:30 am when the car bearing registration number CH 01A – 0650 was moving on a slippery stretch of the road and the driver lost control.
“Soon after the accident, villagers started rescue operation by retrieving all the injured family members from the ill fated car and rushed them to SDH Gandoh,” said Rajinder Singh, ASP Bhadarwah.
“One of the seriously injured lady succumbed to her injuries at Gandoh and her husband breathed his last while being shifted to District Hospital Doda along with other injured members of the family.”
The deceased were identified as Santosha Devi (55) and her husband Bodh Raj Manhas(61), while the injured family members have been identified as their son Deepak Singh and daughters Verta and Poonam, all residents of Chilly Bhalesa.
