Demolition drive turns violent in Ramban

At least 18 persons including three officers and eight employees from Forest department and seven policemen were injured when peoples resorted to stone pelting during demolition of a residential house in forest area in this district.

Divisional Forest Officer Batote, Kuldeep Singh said a team comprising officials from Forest department Batote, Forest Protection Force and a police party headed by SHO police station Batote had gone to demolish a residential house which had been constructed on the forest land in contravention of the Forest Act.

   

He said during the drive, the encroachers and their sympathizers pelted stones on the team due to which 18 officials including three Forest ranger officers, 8 forest guards and seven policemen including a female were injured.

The injured were shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Memorial Hospital Batote. SSP Ramban, Haseeb Ur Rehman said the matter was being investigated. He said seven police personnel received minor injuries in the incident.
