Dilapidated Julla bridge irks Ramban residents

The residents of Maitra, Parnote, Sumbar, Kanga and adjoining areas Tuesday expressed resentment against the dilapidated Julla bridge.

Pertinently, Julla bridge runs over the Chenab river and is part of the old alignment of Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

The locals complained, “The bridge has been declared unsafe for vehicles, but still hundreds of light motor vehicles and two wheelers ply on it. It is the only link between sub-division Gool and several areas of Banihal and Ramban tehsils, including Gool, Sangaldal, Sumber, Gandhrai, Kabi and Dhramkund.”

As per details, the steel and wooden bridge was constructed over Chenab by Public Works department and handed over to Beacon in 1964.

The locals said, “The bridge is partially damaged and has been dilapidated. It poses a serious risk to the safety of commuters.”

They claimed that the bridge is craving for attention and needs immediate repair. They urged the administration to look into the issue before an untoward incident takes place.
