DM imposes Rs 1 lakh penalty on air service companies

Taking note of non-compliance shown by air service companies and for breaching the agreement/contract, District Magistrate Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana on Thursday imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on two air services private limited companies.

“To provide air services to pilgrims on the eve of Hud Mata Yatra, commencing from July 18 till 23, and Machail Mata Yatra, commencing from July 25, bids for helicopter services from Kishtwar-Kaltoot Sirchi (Dacchan) Kalkoot and Gulabgarh-Machail were invited on March 31. Subsequently, the contract was allotted to two companies,” an officer said.

As per allotment of contract, the companies were supposed to approach the office of DM for execution of agreement and accordingly, the agreement was executed. The companies had to carry out a recce of the route on July 16, but both of them failed to station their helicopters and failed to carry out a recce.

“As both the air companies failed to provide services to the pilgrims, it caused a law and order problem. The company managers were requested time and again, but they did not bother and failed to provide the services,” an official said.

Keeping the entire matter in mind, the DM imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on both parties for breach of agreement /contract. Further, the DM has warned both the operators to remain careful in the future, otherwise their case shall be recommended to the Director General of Civil Aviaition New Delhi for blacklisting.
