Duggipilli accident: NDRF men retrieve truck, driver’s body from Chenab

After hectic efforts over four days NDRF men successfully fished out the dead body of driver and retrieved the truck from river Chenab.

The truck bearing registration number JK01P-0417 en route toSrinagar had fallen into river Chenab at Duggipilli near Jaswal bridge on JammuSrinagar National Highway on May 12.

   

The helper of the truck was rescued by police in seriouscondition from the embankment of river on the same day. However the driver ofthe truck identified as Mohammad Shafi son of Gulam Mohammad resident ofQaziqund district Anantnag could not be located as he had been trapped in thedriver’s cabin of the truck.

Initially police with the help of local volunteers startedrescue operation but they could not pull the truck out. The districtadministration later sought the help of divers from army.

Finally a team of NDRF jawans stationed at Srinagar and NewDelhi was summoned to the spot. A pair of recovery cranes was pressed intoservice for toe chaining the truck.
