Dussehra celebrated across Chenab Valley

Dussehra, the festival which marks the victory of good over evil, was celebrated today with full religious fervor and enthusiasm across Chenab Valley.

At Bhaderwah, a grand religious function was held at Historical Seri Bazaar, where the effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhkarana and son Meghnadh were consigned to flames.

   

Large number of people turned up on the occasion to celebrate victory of good over evil.  

Setting an example of brotherhood, the members of Muslim community of Bhaderwah also participated in the celebrations.

On the occasion, shobha yatra was also taken out in the bazaars with tableau of lord Rama in a special chariot depicting the scenes and characters from Ramayana.

A traditional “Rath Pooja” was also performed to mark the return of lord Rama after killing the demon king.

President, Sanatan Dharm Sabha (SDS) Bhaderwah, Ved Kumar Kotwal congratulated the people on this auspicious occasion and said that Dussehra symbolizes the triumph of good over the evil and one should take a pledge on this day to fight evils and follow the path of truth and service to mankind.

“It is heartwarming to see that people of Bhaderwah maintained the age old communal harmony and brotherhood by participating in Dussehra festival irrespective of their religion,” Neeraj Singh Manhas, general secretary, SDS Bhaderwah, said.

He said that Muslim brothers by helping in making and erecting the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnadh have set an example of communal harmony in the region.

Mast Nath Yogi, Janta Dal (S) state president, also joined the function which commenced with the chanting of slogans, symbolizing arrival of lord Rama’s Rath and signifying the victory of good over evil.

“The Dussehra Festival is celebrated as a victory of good over evil to mark the death of Ravana and his army by lord Rama with the support of Vanar Sena at Lanka,” Yogi added. 

SHO Bhaderwah, Munir Khan, political, social and religious leaders besides prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place by the district administration in and around Bhaderwah town to prevent any untoward incident.

Similarly, Dussehra was also celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety at Doda.

As per reports, thousands of people including Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs participated in the celebrations.

SSP, Doda, DySP Hqrs, Doda, Naib Tehsildar, Doda, political leaders, social workers and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.

Dussehra was also celebrated in Thathri where the function was held at Bagh Village.
