‘Have never missed to cast vote since 1965’

It was a rare sight when 72 year old specially-abled Razia Begum carried by her neighbor Abdul Hafiz on her back came to cast her vote here at a polling booth in Bhadarwah.

Her first words in her meek voice are: “I have not missed out casting vote since 1965”.

“From last 53 years, I have never missed a single occasion to vote… Luckily, this time as my neighbor was there to help me to cast my vote,” she says.

For nearly six decades, despite nothing changing on the ground Begum says she hopes this time development will be done in her area.

“We need good roads here. Most of our town still remains without proper lanes and drains which creates lot of problem for us. We need hospitals. I cast my vote every time with the hope that our area would be developed,” she said.

Begum with no source of income lives with her sister at Mohalla Haveli of Bhadarwah.
