HIGHWAY BAN | ‘District admin assurances on exemption not followed on ground’

People here today complained that despite district administration assurances to exempt ’emergency vehicles’ from the highway ban, the security forces and the police personnel on the ground allegedly did not allow such vehicles to run on the National Highway in Ramban district.

Government had on April 3 imposed ban on the civiliantraffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway twice a week on every Wednesdayand Saturday to ease the movement of the security forces till the elections areover in the state.

   

The people travelling in their private vehicles complainedthat they were stopped by the security forces assisted by J&K policepersonnel at various points established on the Jammu Srinagar highway in Rambandistrict.

Earlier, the district administration administration “hadassured that vehicles of schools, colleges government employees, advocates,ambulances and civilian vehicles of emergency nature would be exempt from theban,” the people said.

They said however on the ground the assurance of thedistrict administration has not been respected.

“The highway ban has become a big nuisance,” the commutersalleged.

“It has become a routine for the security forces to stop thecivilian traffic on normal days at different locations from Nashri to Jawahartunnel on highway,” people alleged.
