Highway Ban: PDP stages protest

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers, led by former member of legislative council, Firdous Tak, Sunday staged a demonstration against the government’s ban on civilian traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway for 2 days a week, here at Shalimar Chowk.

While addressing the workers, Tak said, “I heard thatlooters came to India and looted its property. There is no difference betweenthe then rulers and the present rulers. The then rulers looted our property,gold, resources, while the present rulers are looting our peace, brotherhood,unity, development, civilization and culture.”

   

While raising anti-government slogans, the protestersgathered at Shalimar Chowk. They were carrying banners, demanding an end to thegovernment order.

Meanwhile, Tak was briefly detained Sunday along withseveral of his supporters while trying to defy the ban, officials said.

Tak and his supporters were detained at a check point inKishtwar district when he tried to move towards Jammu in violation of thegovernment order, which came into force on Sunday morning, the officials said.

However, he and his supporters were later released.
