Iron bridge collapses in Banihal, 4 injured

Four persons were injured when an iron bridge collapsed in this district on Sunday, officials said.

The 300-meter bridge over Nallah Bishlari in Ramsoo area collapsed when two trucks loaded with construction material for an under-construction tunnel were crossing it.

The collapse of the bridge resulted in injuries to both the drivers and the conductors of the two vehicles, the officials said.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospital and their condition was stated to be stable, the officials said.

The bridge was laid by IRCON some four years back on the approach road leading to the 13.5 km under-construction railway tunnel, which will be the longest in the country after its completion, between Khari and Sumber in Ramban district.

However, the locals alleged that the IRCON used sub-standard material in the construction of the bridge which became the reason for its collapse.

“The construction company didn’t follow the rules and procedures during the construction and used sub-standard material,” a local alleged.
