Kishtwar reels under heaps of garbage

Irked over heaps of garbage lying in and around Kishtwar town, the residents alleged that the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan remained confined to papers only”.

The residents claimed that several areas, including ShaktiNagar, Ward 12 and road leading to KV School from Faisalabad, stink as thegovernment has failed to lift garbage.

While lashing out at the local municipal committee, theyalleged, “The committee was established to help keep the town clean. Therepresentatives were elected to ensure that the town moves in a forwarddirection, but that is not the case.”

“Overflowing drains, heaps of garbage and stinky roads are anew norm. We do not feel that we are living in the 21st century,” theymaintained.

Taking a dig at local politicians and bureaucrats, theresidents claimed, “They are only interested in launching campaigns and organizingawareness lectures, while the situation on the ground needs to be rectified.Instead of spending so much money on promotion, they could use the same toactually put in some work on the ground.”

They urged the administration to look into the issue andredress their grievance.
