Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal remembered in Bhaderwah

To commemorate the sacrifices and to remember one of the most decorated soldiers in the history of Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhaderwah celebrated Martyrs’ Day on the 12th death anniversary of Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, here on Saturday.

Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, who was a resident of Southavillage of Bhaderwah, lost his life in a gunfight with militants in Kupwarasector on 24 June, 2007.

   

Pertinently, Lal remains the only soldier to receive theSena Medal, Veer Chakra and Ashok Chakra (posthumous) simultaneously.

On Saturday, he was remembered by 4 RR, under the aegis ofDelta Force, at Lake View Resort, Gatha in Bhaderwah.

Wreaths were laid on the statue of the soldier by civil,police and army officers. Besides, General Officer Commanding (GOC) DeltaForce, CO 4RR also laid wreaths.

About 50 local ex-servicemen, war veterans and NCC cadets,beside war widows of the area were also present on the occasion. They were madeaware about various army-sponsored government schemes and welfare measures.

“It is very important to remember the sacrifices of thebrave soldiers, who fought for the sovereignty of the nation and also laid downtheir life for the country.” Zeeshan Tahir, Tehsildar Bhaderwah, said. During his address, Shanker Dass, Chuni Lal’sfather, said, “I am proud of my son and his achievements. He was the number 1soldier of the Indian army.”
