‘Lockdown’ still not over for Mankote primary school!

Five days after three government schools located in villages near Line of Control in Mankote zone of Mendhar sub division in Poonch district were found lying closed, forcing authorities to initiate action against the staff, another government school in Upper Mankote area was found locked on Wednesday.

The locals highlighted the matter before authorities demanding action against the staff.

However, according to the  Deputy Chief Education Officer (DyCEO) Mendhar, the school has only one teacher and he too is attached to the office of Tehsildar.

Locals from Upper Mankote panchayat of Mankote tehsil in Mendhar including local panch Mohammad Rashid said, “Government Primary School Charangari school is lying closed although the government has ordered reopening of schools after COVID19 lockdown. Seemingly for it, ‘lockdown’ is still not over.”

They said, “There are around twenty five students studying in this school. The school has only one teacher, who, too, is not attending to his duties and thus school is lying closed.”

“Our children go to school on a daily basis. Seeing locks hanging on the door, they return home and start playing. This is now their daily routine,” said locals.

They demanded action against the officers of the education department for having failed to ensure basic education to children.

Deputy Chief Education Officer (DyCEO) Mendhar Lal Hussain said, “There is only one teacher posted in school. He, too, is attached to the office of tehsildar.”

“We have written a letter to Tehsildar Mankote asking him to detach the teacher.” said Dy CEO.
