Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested a man and rescued 16 bovine animals from his possession near Chenani on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
A police officer said, “A team from Chenani police station, led by station house officer Sanjeet Sharma, laid a checkpoint at Chenani on the highway. During checking, four Tata mobiles were signaled to stop, but all the drivers accelerated and tried to flee.”
The cops chased the vehicles down and managed to arrest one driver, the officer said, adding that the other three drivers, taking advantage of darkness, managed to flee after abandoning their vehicles in the middle of the road.
The arrested man has been identified as Talib Hussain.
The police managed to rescue 16 bovines from the four vehicles, which have been seized.
“FIRs have been registered and police are investigating the cases further,” the officer said.
