‘Man held with intoxicants’

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered a huge quantity of intoxicating injection and tablets from his possession, here near court complex.

A police officer said, “A police team, led by station house officer, Ramban, Vijay Kotwal, laid a checkpoint near court complex in Ramban town. On seeing the cops, a man, carrying a cardboard box, tried to flee from the spot, but the alert personnel managed to chase him down.”

   

During checking, 401 intoxicating injections and 1920 sleeping pills were recovered from the box the man was carrying, the officer said, adding that during questioning, the accused disclosed that he was carrying the consignment to sell among the youth.

Police identified the arrested man as Kulbir Singh.

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further to ascertain the source and other persons involved in the alleged drug smuggling.

Pertinently, a week ago, an elderly man was arrested from Dhramkund area with a consignment of 110 intoxicating injections and Rs 2,16,400 cash.
