Mendhar tense amid polling

The voting under eighth and final phase of District Development Council elections in Poonch district witnessed multiple incidents of scuffle and stone pelting with two candidates, two cops among fifteen people, who got injured, leaving a number of vehicles damaged.

Both Mankote and Mendhar-C DDC constituencies where voting was held however witnessed healthy voters turnover with 79.8% and 87.7% respectively.

   

Officials said that in Poonch district, voting under final phase was held in Mendhar C and Mankote DDC constituencies with majority of the polling stations in Mankote were located along Line of Control in Krishna Ghati sector. They informed that 87.7% voters turnover has been registered in Mendhar-C constituency which is the highest registered voters turnover in Poonch district.

Similarly, in Mankote DDC constituency, 83.5% voters reached their respective polling stations to cast their vote.

Meanwhile, voting in both the constituencies witnessed multiple incidents of law and order problem leaving fifteen injured who include two DDC candidates.

” First incident took place at Salwah polling station of Mendhar C where supporters of PAGD candidate and of an independent candidate scuffled and attacked each other with stones and lathis resulting injuries to four people.” said officials.

They said that all four with one having injury in head and one in arm are under treatment in sub district hospital Mendhar.

In two more such incidents that took place near polling stations of Jugal and Kalaban areas of Mendhar C constituency amid voting, three person got injured who all have also been shifted to sub district hospital Mendhar.

Officials added that another incident took place after voting in Chajjla area of Mankote DDC constituency where DDC candidate Mohammad Ashraf Chowdhary alongwith his supporters were attacked and stones were pelted on their vehicles.
